Hey! I’m Kaela (she/her/hers); I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and a graduate of Northwestern University’s Marriage and Family Therapy program, and a Certified Therapeutic Game Master.
I work with individuals, couples, and families to address a wide range of challenges including anxiety, depression, perfectionism, communication issues, infidelity, and life stage transitions. I have particular interest and experience working with teens and their families to help navigate the challenges, pressures, and demands of middle and high school, and the strain this stage can put on the entire family. I also enjoy working with non-monogamous and polyamorous partners. I am a LGBTQIA2+ allied, sex-positive, and body positive therapist and remain steadfast in my commitment to practicing therapy that centers on social justice and cultural awareness/inclusivity.
I also run virtual therapeutic TTRPG groups (learn more here) where each campaign is designed to teach and reinforce a variety of inter and intrapersonal skills! Groups will be playing Dungeons and Dragons, Tales from the Loop, Daggerheart, and/or Masks: A New Generation to go on adventures, slay monsters, and learn more about ourselves and how we interact with the world around us. Interested? Send me an email or register our interest through this link and I will get in touch!
My therapeutic style is a bit more casual than most. I believe that the best work gets done when all those involved feel free to be themselves and show up in a way that feels most authentic to them. This means that I show up to therapy as your equal, not your superior, and will collaborate with you to help you achieve and maintain your goals. While I do have extensive training in the mechanisms of relationships and will be helping you throughout your therapeutic process, I fully acknowledge that you are the expert of your life and I value your genuine and unfiltered input in session. Through our work together I hope to help you explore and deepen your understanding of yourself, the roles you have learned to maintain throughout your life, and how those roles continue to influence your thoughts, behaviors and the ways in which you interact with the world around you. I use an integrative systemic approach to therapy that allows me to strategically tailor therapy to meet your unique needs. This means that our work will be creative and evolve as our work progresses and as your needs shift!
I recognize that going to therapy can feel incredibly exposing and is especially nerve wracking when you are not sure what to expect. Rest assured that while I will challenge you to think critically about what is brought to session, I will also be your biggest advocate and cheerleader throughout your therapeutic journey. If you feel we would be a good match please give me a call and we can set up a time to talk! I am happy to answer any questions you may have and look forward to working with you.
