I’m Ryan (he/him/his), and I’ve been practicing as a couple and family therapist since 2012. I am licensed in both Illinois and Nevada. I’m also a former Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology at Northwestern University, where I taught graduate-level courses and supervised masters students.

Therapy is awesome, especially with the right therapist-client match. I’m a big believer that therapy doesn’t have to be buttoned-up or artificial. It should be comfortable and real. I prefer to facilitate a more casual environment where we can openly discuss anything that’s on your mind and where you can feel safe to explore who you are and how you relate to others.

Though I specialize in working with video gamers and e-sports athletes, I also have considerable experience working with non-gamers, fellow therapists, athletes, musicians, couples, and open/non-monogamous/poly relationships. Though I maintain a culturally-sensitive and LGBTQIA-affirmative practice, I believe that ally-ship happens through action and is determined/ confirmed by others rather than applied as a self-label.

I have worked extensively through the years with clients who struggle with severe and debilitating anxiety, performance anxiety, social anxiety, athletic performance, e-sports performance, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), emotional expression, and communication difficulties. Though working through these issues can be difficult, I work hard to ensure that the process is collaborative and empowering.

In addition to conducting therapy, I am passionate about supervising graduate students as well as therapists who are working toward their license. I also provide e-sports consulting both at the amateur and professional levels.

I am a lifelong video-gamer, and I host a Twitch live-stream and YouTube channel titled [Game] Sessions with a Therapist under the pseudonym “Dr. Mick”, which has been featured on several podcasts and media.

I look forward to working with you!
